What to Expect

Typically, each of our social dances consists of one hour of dance instruction followed by two and a half hours of general dancing.

Our social dances welcome individuals as well as couples!

The program includes a mix of ballroom dance music, dance mixers, and dance demonstrations whenever possible.

Lessons

Before each dance, the club hires a professional ballroom dance Instructor from the greater Madison area to provide a one-hour beginner-level group lesson. The dance covered is different each month.

Social Dancing

No partner is required when attending our events. We encourage men and women alike to ask others to dance. See Etiquette for more information.

Mixers

A dance mixer is an way to dance with a number of different other dancers in rapid succession. Typically, the dance is a traveling dance like Waltz of Fox Trot. Leads line up on one side of the floor. Follows on the other. The people at the front of each line dance with each other down the dance floor. When they get to the other side, they return to their respective lines and wait to get to the front again, where they will likely encounter a different partner every time.

Showcase

Our club invites the professional instructor teaching the night’s lesson to provide a ten-to-fifteen-minute showcase at each of our monthly dances. The showcases are a popular part of our dance events.

What to Wear

Most of our events events require “dressy-casual” attire. Men will be in good company wearing a button up shirt (with or without a tie) and slacks/khakis. Women will be in good company wearing a blouse and slacks or a comfortable dress. Events intended to be more formal will specifically publicize the requested attire.
